We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The manager returned the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) which gave us all the information we asked for. It gave written evidence of how the home has been managed since the last inspection which was carried out on 2nd March 2009. There were no requirements issued at the last inspection. There were eight recommendations issued to assist the manager to improve standards with logging and monitoring complaints and measuring quality of care. The home can accommodate up to seven people with a learning disability. Each person has there own room, there own key and a key for the front door so they can come and go as they please. Genesis is two town house that mirror each other with communal access at the rear. There are three bedrooms that have en suite facilities and others have easy access to bathrooms situated near to bedrooms. The manager said that during the last year there has been an extra toilet and bathroom added. Both houses have communal rooms which have always been clean and tidy, there is one lounge which is kept for residents to entertain visitors in private. Residents have access to the kitchen and help prepare meals for others and staff. Each new prospective resident is assessed on their care and social needs before admission, and are invited to discuss their individual needs when their plan of care is written and reviewed, either by themselves or with a representative who could be a family member or social worker. The home has written documentation to enable residents to make up their own mind before moving in to ensure that the staff have their best interests at heart. The admission of any resident can take some time, the manager said that they are invited to meet other residents, stay for a meal, stay overnight and generally have a settling in period before making up their mind. Each resident has a care plan of their care and social needs and record of their work and leisure and educational needs. Residents are encouraged to discuss plans during Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 residents meetings and during the one to one meeting with their key worker. All plans are reviewed on a regular basis. The people living in the home have always told us that they are comfortable and happy there, and that the staff team are good friends and people you can trust. Feedback from residents continue to give an insight into there lives, all of the residents come and go as they please, as long as they tell the staff of there whereabouts, some have jobs or attend college and others enjoy more leisure activities. Each resident has the opportunity to have a holiday, and the manager said that the choice of venue is under discussion for a change. The staffing levels remain constant, with some staff having worked at the home for several years and they show that they increase their numbers of staff when this is required during periods of activity, holidays and weekend cover. The manager continues to let us know at CQC (Care Quality Commission) about things that happen at the home to ensure they manage their issues well. Our judgement resulting in the information showed that the home continues to provide a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection within three years of the last inspection carried out on 2nd March 2009. However, we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information Document Purpose: Author: Audience: Further copies from: Annual service review CQC General Public 0870 240 7535 (national contact centre) Our duty to regulate social care services is set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
