What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last annual service review. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the home. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - What the home has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection. - What other people have told us about the service. The last key inspection took place on 02/10/2007 and the last annual service review on 23/09/2008. What has this told us about the service? The home did not send us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was, however, clear and generally gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA contains a number of practical examples where the support provided by staff at the home has enabled people to achieve their goals. Since the date of the last inspection, feedback has been gathered from new clients on how the move to Geraint House went and how it could be improved. Mini assessments have also been carried out with clients on what was a Good day Bad day for each person. The home has effective arrangements of its own for quality assurance: We carry out a Residents Review of Services each year this evaluates 14 key areas, and set annual targets which we ensure we meet. These are published in the Business Plan each year. In 2008 all targets were exceeded with the exception of Activities again, this has now been addressed and the budget increased to enable more paid Social Activities. For example so far this year we have organised 32 individual social events in 10 months. A Visitor Questionnaire is also used to evaluate the service. We received comment cards from six people who live in the home and a healthcare professional. All were satisfied with the quality of the care provided. The healthcare professional stated that it is generally a very good care home & one that I am happy with. Good staff communication & clients are generally very well supported. We also received comment cards from four members of staff. When asked what the home does well, their comments included the following: Care for the residents well; Supportive of staff and clients, puts clients needs and wishes first. Warm friendly atmosphere, family like feeling; I personally think that Geraint House is a brilliantly run care home. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. They generally work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review?
Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 1st October 2010.
