What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and contained the information that had been requested. Surveys had been sent to the home for distribution by the manager. Some surveys have been returned and will be included in this report. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA told us that all people wishing to use the service benefit from a preadmission assessment. Glebe Cottage is a small home and there are no vacancies and no recent admissions. The AQAA advised us that should a vacancy arise the manager would obtain a comprehensive assessment to ensure the home could meet their needs. The prospective person wishing to use the service would then be invited to the home to give them and their representative an opportunity to test drive the service to ensure their needs and aspirations can be met. The manager told us in the AQAA that the six people who use the service have comprehensive individualised life plans, person centred plans and health action plans in place. The documents are regularly reviewed and updated by the staff in consultation with the people using the service. The AQAA states that people who use the service are supported to maintain family relationships either by visits or a visit to their relatives home with assistance from staff. People who use the service also have access to the community and activities are sought according to their interests and abilities. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The AQAA told us that the home had received no complaints during the past year and no referrals under the local authoritys safeguarding adults procedures. The manager states in the AQAA that people who use the service live in a homely, clean, comfortable and safe living environment. People using the service are encouraged to treat the home as their own and their own possessions are in the bedrooms. Staff who returned surveys to us confirmed that all the necessary pre-employment checks were carried out prior to them commencing their employment. Two confirmed that their induction covered everything they needed to know while one said it mostly covered everything and another said it it did not give them all the information they needed. The registered manager has been in place since 1989 and is supported by a deputy manager. The AQAA tells us there is a clear and accountable management structure. People who use the service also returned some survey forms to us. They had been assisted to complete these forms by their relatives. Comments included:As far as we are aware my brother is happy and we are grateful for the care he receives. Very caring and competent staff. It feels like a home or family. Have been with the same other residents for many years. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 31st October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
