Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we had received, or asked for since the last key inspection in October 2008. This included: . The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. . Feedback surveys returned to us by those using the service and from staff. . Information we have about how the home manages any complaints. . What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. . The previous inspection report. . Relevant information from other organisations. . What people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment which was completed by the manager of the service. The information provided showed us what improvements the home has made and their plans for the future. For example residents had been involved in the choosing of the colour scheme for the decoration of the corridors and lounges, that Advanced Practitioners are involved in the home to reduce the need of hospital admissions and that the garden areas had been re-flagged making it more accessible for everyone. Improvements for the future are to include: More recording of daily activities, to reduce the use of agency staff and to involve residents and relatives more in the reviewing of care plans. Our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service for the people living at the home. As part of the review we asked people using the service and staff to complete our surveys telling us what they think about the home. We received completed feedback from three residents and five staff. People living at the home indicated they are happy there. One said, They take care of us, they feed us well and help us to live as we want to. Another said, I like because it is nice and I am very happy living here. Staff comments were positive, one said, The home looks after individuals needs, promotes independence and gives good quality care to all residents. Another said, We provide a homely environment and a good standard of care. All staff indicated that they are given enough information about the needs of the people they care for, that training is Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 good and is relevant to their role and that full recruitment checks were carried out prior to commencing work. Feedback is gathered by the home through their own quality assurance systems, which includes good communication, with residents, questionnaires and residents/relatives meetings. The management of the home remains stable. There has been one complaint made to the manager of the home, which is pending an outcome. There has been one safeguarding adult referral made since the last inspection. Information provided on the AQAA told us that mandatory staff training is up to date and that training for NVQs is ongoing. The manager informs us of any events, which may occur and manages any problems arising in a professional manner. The manager works well with us and has shown that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
