Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the following - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. - Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? A completed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment was returned to the Commission as requested and the information was found to be detailed and provided us with information of how the home has progressed and developed over the last twelve months. From information contained within the AQAA and from the previous inspection we know how the service operates. Some of the practices undertaken include the following .. Regular meetings and one to one discussion with residents and the families and significant other including social workers. Implementation of changes following service users and visitors feedback Ongoing verbal and written feedback from service users and relatives is always considered. There are policies and procedures in place that are regularly reviewed covering such areas as safeguarding adults, bullying and concerns and complaints. Those people living in the home who completed our survey stated they know who to talk to regarding any concerns and how to make a formal complaint. We were also told that staff are caring and support people by being there when needed. Only one resident said they do not enjoy the food or have time to talk to someone when needed. All other comments were positive and clearly stated that the home is clean, tidy and that activities are enjoyed. Again, one person stated that they do not have activities they enjoy. We received comments that said having more trips out or bus rides locally would be good and one person asked for more activities that are geared to things they personally like. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 A new manager has recently been appointed and in discussions with us she has confirmed that she is talking to residents in the home regularly. The home continues to keep us fully informed of any occurances in the home as required under the rules of registration. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Overall, our judgement following this review is that Goodwins Hall continues to be managed effectively and in the best interests of people using services and of the staff. There will be no change to the proposed inspection plan and a key inspection will be carried out by 19/10/2010 However, the service can be inspected at any time if the Commission have any concerns about the quality of the service or safety of the people using the service.
