What the care home does well We saw that lots of training has been provided for the staff and further training has been planned for the very near future. We concentrated mainly on looking at the training for safeguarding vulnerable people and the training for moving and handling. We saw that throughout the month of February all the staff had received further training in the safeguarding of people. We also spoke to the Manager and the Directors of the home who were very clear about their roles and responsibilites in reporting any allegations of mistreatment. Policies and procedures for the protection of vulnerable adults were in place. All the staff had received training in moving and handling. Staff told us that there was enough equipment for moving and handling and the Manager told us that 2 new hoists had been ordered. A check of several weeks duty rotas showed that there was enough trained nurses and care staff on duty throughout the day and night to care for the residents. The care plans were very detailed and gave clear instruction and guidance on how the care needs of the residents were to be met. These details also included how the residents were to be assisted with being moved around, by how many members of staff, and what equipment, if any was to be used to assist. What the care home could do better: No requirements have been made from this inspection. During a recent meeting with the Bury Social Services Adult Protection Team it was decided that we would visit the home to see what training the staff had received in relation to the safeguarding of people. We also looked at what training the staff had received in the way that they assist people being moved around. Also what equipment, such as hoists, were in place to assist with moving and handling. We also looked at some of the residents care plans to see if they contained enough information about them. A care plan details the individual care and support needs that a resident may have and also shows how those needs are to be met by the staff. Whilst at the home we looked at look at how many nursing and care staff were rostered to be on duty on each of the units. This is to make sure that there are enough staff on duty at any one time to meet the needs of the residents.
