Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service or from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the home. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints or allegations. The previous inspection report. The service history. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment when we asked for it. This was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA, the service history, and additional information received since the last inspection, and it is our judgement that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they have to make. The AQAA outlines the admission procedure and prospective residents will be invited to the home for lunch or afternoon tea initially. They also have a needs assessment undertaken at this stage to ensure that the home have the resources in place to meet their assessed individual needs. Care plans are bases on assessment, input from residents and their family and contributions from other health care professionals. These are reviewed monthly. Activities are planned with input from residents and include art and craft, outside entertainers, visits to the garden centre, card and board games and music. A visiting farm came to the home this year and plan to return again. Spiritual needs are supported and various clergy visit residents on request. Eight residents surveys were received having been completed with the help of staff. One resident said They take care of me very well, there is always someone here to help if I need it, and the meals are good. Catering arrangements are good, however Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 a resident commented we want more meat on the menu. The home has a complaints procedure and this is accessible to all residents and their relatives on admission to the home. There have been no complaints received either in the home of by The Care Quality Commission since the last inspection. There is also a safeguarding vulnerable adults procedure in place and all staff undertake regular training on abuse awareness and whistle blowing. The AQAA outlined the maintenance arrangements in the home. There is an ongoing programme of refurbishment and decoration. Several bedrooms have redecorated and refurnished, and plans are in place to continue this project. New furniture has been provided for the lounge and new flooring for the lounge. The garden is well maintained and plans are also in place to improve this in the summer. There is now a cleaner employed five days a week to maintain the cleanliness and standard of hygiene in the home. All staff undertake induction training and mandatory training is updated when required. NVQ training is ongoing. The home is managed in the best interest of the residents by the two providers. Systems are in place to monitor quality assurance, and residents are consulted on aspects of the home, and their views and suggestions listened to and acted upon. The AQAA indicates that the home promotes the health, safety, and welfare or the residents and staff and that all staff receive training in health and safety policies and procedures. The home continues to inform The Care Quality Commission of any relevant events that have occurred in the home since the last inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with The Care Quality Commission and have shown that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the residents living there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 26th February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the residents using the service.
