Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: The lead inspector requested this inspection to see that residents medicines were being managed safely. The visit took about two hours and involved looking at residents medicines and medicine records. The home manager accompanied the pharmacist throughout this inspection. We found that residents health and wellbeing is protected by good medicine management. We looked at how medicines were stored and found them secure. This means only authorised people can have access to the medicines. We looked at how medicines were handled and recorded. Where possible the pharmacy provide the medicines in a calendar pack. This makes it easy to compare the records with the pack to be sure the medicine has been given correctly. Additional records are kept for medicines like sedatives as an additional precaution. The quantities of other medicines are not recorded. This is important to be sure that there is no mishandling. Most residents records were clear and complete. There were only a very few instances of staff missing records.
