Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the annual quality assurance assessment, AQAA, that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment, AQAA, when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. Surveys were returned to us by 4 residents, 6 staff and 2 health care professionals. Residents said that they receive the care, support and medical help they need. Staff are said to be available when they are needed and that they listen and act on what residents say. Residents also confirmed that they like the meals. 3 people commented that the cleanliness and maintenance of the environment is particularly good. One person said that the provision of activities outside the home could be improved and that residents would benefit from staff having more time to listen and chat with the residents. Health care professionals made positive remarks about the home, with the exception that the home was said by one person to meet health needs only sometimes, and, that the advice is followed 50 to 75 per cent of the time. Comment was also made that access to the shower facility is unsuitable downstairs. Care staff said that the home meets the health and personal care needs of the residents. Staff training and induction are provided. Staff said that there are enough staff to meet residents needs. The home keeps the Commission informed of events and liaises with social services where needed. This includes making safeguarding referrals where necessary, which the home has done on 4 occassions in the last year. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 19/06/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
