Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included; The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and by staff. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Information from any visits we have made to the service. What has this told us about the service? The care home sent their AQAA when we asked for it. It gave the basic information required, however it was very brief and lacked detail and evidence of the outcomes for people living at the home. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The surveys completed by people living at Greyrigg and staff were positive about standards of care and support. They indicated that peoples care needs were understood. People living at the home felt that their views were listened to and staff were always available. The comments received included: Very good meals and help when needed. Friendly environment, people are always happy, the home is always warm and clean. I enjoy working at Greyrigg. The residents are always friendly and it is a caring and sharing environment. The home is warm, friendly and residents are well cared for. There is a good varied diet. there are plenty of opportunities for people to do varied things during the day. The AQAA details the admission process. The manager ensures that all people thinking of moving to the home have their needs fully assessed, this involves the person Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 themselves, their relatives and other health and social service agencies. There are plans to redesign the information that is available to help people make an informed decision as this could be made easier to read. All people living at the home have a care plan which details their preferences and support needs in their daily life including their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional care needs. Staff understand the care planning process and have received training in this, including the importance of recording accurately the comments of people who live at the home and their relatives. The activities on offer at the home are limited by the level of interest people at the home show in participation. Fitness sessions have been introduced recently. This is an area that the manager has identified as in need of improvement and there are plans to identify the interests of people living at the home and to encourage staff to gain an insight into the past experiences and interests of people who live at Greyrigg. There have been no formal complaints raised at the home. Regular meetings with the people who live at Greyrigg have been useful in gathering views and issues. There are plans to encourage families and friends to be part of these meetings. The views of people are also gathered when the owner of the home makes regular visits to monitor the standards of care at Greyrigg. There have been improvements to some furnishings and decor during the past year. There is a plan in place to ensure the home is maintained to a good and safe standard. The nurse call system has been upgraded. There have been new senior care staff posts created. Staff have access to relevant training. All staff have training in infection control, nutrition and twelve staff have achieved a National Vocational Qualification in Care at level 2 or above, this is the recommended qualification for people providing social care. The manager of Greyrigg has completed the registration process. She supports staff through regular supervision. The policies and procedures of the home have been reviewed and implemented. The AQAA indicates that the health and safety of people at the home is promoted by the completion of required checks and servicing of facilities. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor information about this service. We can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
