What the care home does well The home is clean, comfortable and has a homely atmosphere. People living in the home tell us they are being supported well by the staff team and the staff are kind and caring. One visitor told us that "staff go beyond the call of duty when looking after service users". Arrangements are in place for staff to receive the training and supervision which will assist them in meeting people`s needs and over 50% of staff have achieved a National Vocational Qualification at Level 2 and above. Since our last visit a hoist has been purchased to aid staff to meet identified needs and some of the bedrooms have been re furbished. What the care home could do better: A programme of group activities is displayed and although we are told one to one activities are carried out for service users who stay in their rooms through illness or choice these are not recorded anywhere. The deputy manager told us that in future one to one sessions related to individual services users interest`s could easily be recorded in their care plans. While planning for this visit we took into account information provided in the report of our previous visit, the Annual Quality Assessment Audit completed by the home 16/2/10, and other information we have received on the service such as notifications sent to us by the provider and information sent to us from other interested parties. The random visit was carried out on the 25th May 2010 and the visit was carried out by one inspector. During our visit we sampled records relating to medication, complaints, staff recruitment, staff training and supervision, quality assurance and health and safety. We sampled the care records for three people living in the home, we also looked at the medication procedures and records for people living in the home. We talked with six people living in the home, one persons relative, and three staff working in the home.
