We call this review a ‘key’ inspection We do an annual service review when there has been no key inspection of the service in the last 12 months. It does not involve a visit to the service but is a summary of new information given to us, or collected by us, since the last key inspection or annual service review.   Has this annual service review changed our opinion of the service?   No You should read the last key inspection report for this service to get a full picture of how well outcomes for the people using the service are being met. We looked at all the information that we have received from Hollybank House, or asked them for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service, and was received in September 2009. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some statistical and numerical information about the service. Information that we have about Hollybank House on the QA system has been reviewed, including any complaints or concerns that have been raised. The last key inspection report and the inspection record have also been reviewed. The service folder was reviewed for any other relevant information. We also looked at any relevant information that we have received about Hollybank House from other organisations. We looked at what any other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was returned within the time scale asked for, however in some parts it was quite brief, and not in sufficient depth to allow full quality judgements to be made. Among the improvements to the service identified in the AQAA were: We now encourage prospective service users and their families to discuss assed needs and plan of care in the pleasant environment of our new conservatory with a choice of refreshments. Through a pharmacy inspection it was highlighted that certain drugs were being dispensed from one source instead of each service user having their own supply. An additional trolley has been ordered to house all of the individual medications. We have implemented a regular monthly church service, with holy communion, blessing and hymns. Two blenders have been purchased to allow food to be blended seperately so that individual colours, textures and tastes can be identified. the infection control nurse has visited within the past year for staff training and has completed an infection control audit. The Commission has received one complaint about this care home in the last twelve months, and this complaint was passed back to them to deal with, through their complaints procedure. In their AQAA the care home stated they had received no complaints in the last twelve months. No referrals have been made under safeguarding adults procedures in the last twelve months either. We sent out ten questionnaires to people who use this service, and five to members of staff, to gain their views on the service and how well it is meeting peoples needs. We had all ten questionnaires returned, most completed on behalf of people living at the home by members of their family. We have also received three questionnaires from members of staff. Comments received from people who use the service/ relatives included: Very caring staff and they show an interest in the residents. Varied activities, always make visitors feel welcome, and try to involve them in activities/ entertainment. Always keen to share information, especially medical. Meals always look inviting. Very impressed with accompanied visits to the hospital, especially unexpected ones. A caring Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Atmosphere. Takes excellent care of my mother and always ring if she is not well. More sensory equipment and bean bags for those with mobility and sight problems would be an improvement. The home has a relaxwd, caring feel with friendly staff who communicate well with residents and relatives. There is nothing wrong with it, it seems alright to me. I have no complaints. They keep the home very clean and tidy. Very clean and very good food. They talke away the worry for relatives. Comments received from staff included: The home gives great care to residents, and considers their wishes. Good staffing levels, a good team that work together well. A well run establishment with residents care paramount. Caring staff, good support for families and relatives, pleasant environment, choices made available in many areas of care, relatives kept fully informed on progress and changes, a high standard of care. We have received three notification forms during the past twelve months to report notifiable incidents involving people who receive a service, these were routine, and were dealt with appropriately by the staff. At the last key inspection this service was rated as being a good service. There are no ongoing concerns about the quality of care that Hollybank House offers, and a review of the documentation that has been received does not highlight any issues that need to be addressed, beyond the need for a more detailed AQAA to be submitted in future, to allow quality judgements to be made. As a result of all the information received we have decided not to alter the inspection date for the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fess and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
