Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? Our last key inspection on the 26th March 2009 judged the two outcome groups Daily life and Social activities and Staffing as adequate. The remaining outcome groups outcome groups were assessed as good. Consequently the overall rating was assessed as 2 star good. There was one requirement made about ensuring bathroom doors are closed when personal care is carried out and the action taken to address this was referred to in the providers draft report comments. The homes annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) was returned when we asked for it. It was adequately completed and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. We received completed surveys from eight residents, three relatives, eight members of staff and one professional. They confirmed that people generally receive a good standard of care and raised no serious issues or concerns. Comments we received from residents included; All staff look after me very well, If I have to live anywhere, Id live here. They treat me with respect, The staff know all about me and look after me and I like living here. Comments we received from relatives included; They could be more responsive to individuals needs, They look after my relatives needs well and they are very kind and Good care in a homely atmosphere. Staff that completed surveys told us that they they receive up to date information Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 about the needs of the people they support. They also told us that their recruitment was done fairly and thoroughly and the feedback about supervision, training and development was mostly good. The AQAA tells us that the service received eight formal complaints in the past twelve months, six of which were upheld. The commission received one complaint which we referred directly to the provider to investigate. They responded to the complaint appropriately and within the given timescale. The AQAA also tells that there has been three safeguarding referrals, resulting in one safeguarding investigation. We are waiting to hear the outcome from the local authority. There has also been an additional referral made by the service since the AQAA was completed. The service has demonstrated that they take concerns seriously and report them appropriately. There has been an unregistered manager in post since April 2009 however their new managers application was received by the Commission on 24th February 2010. The manager keeps us informed about things that happen at the home and sends us notifications as required. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? As a result of this review we have not changed our inspection plan and intend to do a key inspection by 25th March 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
