Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection of Jasmine House took place in October 2008, when we assessed that care outcomes achieved for people living there were excellent. For this annual service review we have looked at all of the information that we have received from anyone about Jasmine House since then. This could be in the form of surveys returned to us from people living in the home,(provided for then in an appropriate format to help them understand the questions), from staff who work there or from relatives, carers or advocates of people living in Jasmine House. It also includes any information sent to us or contacts with Jasmine House about significant events affecting people living in the home and any information or contacts we may have had with health or social care professionals associated with the home and the people living there. In addition, the home have sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being mt for people living in Jasmine House. It also includes some useful statistical information, for example about complaints and staff training. What has this told us about the service? I cannot fault their care and service and cannot think of anything they could do better, I am very pleased they are in Jasmine House was the comment of one parent about the home. People who live in Jasmine House told us that staff always (75 ) or usually (25 ) treat them well, they all indicated that they knew how to make a complaint should they want to do so. 50 said that carers always listen and act on what they say, 50 said that the usually did. Some of the comments received from people living in Jasmine House when asked What does the home do well? were; Home looks after us well and the food is nice, We go out on trips, Get well looked after and good cooks by staff, Look after me. When asked what the home could do better, 75 said nothing and 25 doing all ok. People who work in Jasmine House told us that they are given the up to date information about the care needs of people living in the home so that they can meet their care needs appropriately. They told us that sometimes they felt that more staff would be useful so that, for example more activities outside of the home could be organised. However in general the responses were very positive. We have lots of opportunities to voice any concerns and all service users have the very best residential care were some typical comments made. The AQAA was very well completed and provided what appears to be an accurate and realistic assessment of how well the home has achieved care outcomes for the people who live there and how they could improve these in the future. Some positive achievements include arranging for work assessments for employment Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 to be carried out by a specialist agency in response to requests from people living in the home. Enrolment of people living in the home at colleges where that is possible and in line with their wishes and have continued to provide additional facilities within the home such as a wet room and improved washing facilities. Plans for the future improvement of the home set out in the AQAA include the provision of a new summerhouse/games room for the use of people living in the home. The AQAA informs us that no complaints have been received during the past year. Since the last inspection the home have made effective and appropriate use of their safeguarding vulnerable adults policy and procedure and throughout have kept the CQC and other appropriate bodies fully informed of any events that have or might affect the health, safety and well-being of people living in the home. This provides confidence that the home and its management team are proactive and open in dealing with any actual or potential areas of concern. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? When we last assessed Jasmine House in October 2008, we found that it achieved excellent care outcomes for the people that live there. Nothing that has happened since then has caused us to doubt that assessment is still valid and accurate. We are currently intending to carry out another annual service review by October 2010. We will continue to receive and assess information about Jasmine House in the meantime and should this give rise to any concerns about either the quality of the service being provided or the safety of people living in Jasmine House we can carry out an inspection at any time.
