Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: The reason for this Random Inspection was as part of the Registration Transition process and to follow up on recommendations set at the last inspection. We visited the home on a weekday morning, and the visit lasted two hours. We spoke to some residents, staff and the deputy manager. We looked a care plan, medication administration records, staff files and the quality monitoring systems. We looked at the training for staff to enable them to care for people safely as well as the supervision they receive to support them in their role. The deputy manager told us that the plans for the extension have been agreed and they are in the process of finalising the plans with the architects. This will mean they will have improved space for the people who live in the home and staff will have separate office space to carry out their paperwork. Staff and people living at the home were all positive about the planned improvements. People who live at the service all said that the manager spoke to them regularly about the extension and was keeping us informed. We looked at care plans and these provided information on how to support people, people we spoke with said that staff helped them when they needed to be helped and were kind and respectful. One person told us staff always respect my dignity. Staff told us they received support to attend training and training records showed that all mandatory health and safety training was provided including up dates. Staff were also supported to attend National Vocational Training, this is a skills based training to show people have reached a set standard. We looked at the recruitment of staff to ensure that only staff suitable to work with vulnerable people were recruited. We looked at two files one had all the information required by law such as Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks and two references. However the second file only had a CRB check there was no application and no references. There were issues on the CRB that had not been followed up showing that a risk assessment had been made to show this person posed no risk to the people who lived at the home. We also saw that staff were not getting regular supervision to support them in their work. We looked at the quality monitoring systems in place and saw that regular surveys were made of peoples view of the home. The deputy manager also told us that they have regular service user meetings but was unable to show us the minutes. However we spoke with people who confirmed that they were involved in meetings and the manager regularly spoke to them about how to improve the home or any changes they might want. People told us that they thought the home is well manged and the manager is very good.
