Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The acting manager last sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) in November 2008 when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We have received one complaint about the service in the last twelve months. The complaint was addressed by the acting manager of the home and not upheld. The acting manager told us that the home has not received any other formal complaints within the last 12 months. We spoke to the acting manager on 16/02/10 about the continued improvements in the service. He reported to us that the home have received 5 stars (good) after a recent quality audit by the Local Authority and also 5 stars (good) from the Rushcliffe Environmental Health Department, this latter award has been achieved by the home for the last 3 years which is commendable. The acting manager also told us that as part of the Local Authority audit people using the service provided positive comments about the care and services provided at the home. The acting manager has been in post since the home was registered 3 years ago, however he is not yet registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), he has confirmed to us that he has obtained the appropriate application forms and is now Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 completing the registration process. The acting manager reports to us that they are continuing to exceed the National Minimum Standards for staff training and development, there are over 76 of the staff team trained to at least level 2 National Vocational Qualification in care. He also told us that staff have received training in new ways of working to ensure that people are supported to make their own decisions in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act and its safeguards. Other improvements in the service are continuing , they tell us they are completing a bowling alley for residents to enjoy skittles. The acting manager shows that he recognises the importance of dignity in care, he has appointed 3 dignity champions and Mental Capacity champions to ensure that staff have an awareness of important issues and are trained to uphold the rights and dignity of the residents. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
