During this Random Inspection a discussion was held with the manager and deputy, which covered the admissions process and copies of pre-admission documentation were looked at. A copy of the latest newsletter, the statement of purpose and service guide were also looked at and everything was found to be in order and up to date. Samples of two care plans were looked at and found to be clear and informative, with evidence of active involvement by the relevant service users in putting them together. Clear evidence was also available to show how people needed and wanted to be supported and discussions with the manager, deputy and a member of staff confirmed a sound knowledge and understanding of peoples individual needs. Evidence was also seen in the care plans of empowering risk assessments, together with examples of people making decisions for themselves about their lives. Observations during the inspection also confirmed this. Discussions, observations and records looked at confirmed that people have opportunities to develop by way of work and day placements. Additionally, people continue to be actively part of the local community and are supported to be as independent as possible for example, working towards using public transport alone to be able to access activities and amenities of their choice, as and when they wish. Discussions, observations and a sample of care plans confirmed that people continue to be supported as they wish and continue to have access to various healthcare professionals as required. A sample of medication records were looked at and seen to be accurate and up to date, with robust medication procedures in place. Since the last key inspection the Commission has received one notification regarding a persons safety and wellbeing, which the resident raised with the manager. Discussions and records seen during this Random Inspection confirmed that appropriate action was taken by the manager and staff at Link House and very clear evidence was available to confirm that the persons concerns were listened to and taken seriously. Observations during this Random Inspection showed that Link House continues to be a homely, comfortable and safe environment, which is clean and hygienic. Discussions were held with the deputy manager and another staff member, during which they confirmed that they are very happy working at the Home and evidence of regular training and updates were seen. 100 of staff at Link House have achieved a minimum of NVQ 2, with some holding higher qualifications. From observations, the sample of records looked at and discussions with the manager, deputy, staff member and residents it was very apparent that Link House continues to be a well run home, with a very competent manager.
