What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent by us to people using the service and to other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Any relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). They had completed all sections of the AQAA appropriately, giving sufficient detail of what they do well, how they have improved in the past 12 months and their plans for improvement in the next 12 months. Previous pre-inspection information provided by the manager has been found to be a true reflection of the service when evidence was examined at unannounced inspections. At the last key inspection on 1st October 2008, all the key National Minimum Standards were assessed and outcomes for people living in the home were measured against these standards. Outcome groups relating to Choice of Home, Individual Needs and Choices, Lifestyle, Personal and Healthcare Support, Concerns, Complaints and Protection, Environment, Staffing and Conduct and Management of the Home were all judged to be good. Overall the home was judged to provide a good service. No statutory requirements were made following that inspection. One good practice recommendation was made that members of staff who are in the process of working on National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) should continue to be supported to complete the award so that at least 50 per cent of staff hold an NVQ as recommended in the National Minimum Standards. The manager told us in the AQAA that in the past 12 months they have maintained a high level of staff working on NVQ at levels 2 and 3. This indicates that the service is committed to making progress with developing and improving the service. At the time of considering information for this Annual Service Review we had received completed surveys from people using the service, which were completed with the assistance of members of staff. A person living in the home told us, I enjoy it at Little Paddocks. We also received completed surveys from four members of staff who made positive comments about the service. One member of staff told us that what they do well is, support the service users. Two other members of staff made positive comments Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 including, We all work well as a team and We have a good staff team. At the time of the last inspection we noted that the service maintained and established staff team who were committed to providing a good service to the people who live at Little Paddocks. In the past year no referrals have been made to the local authority under their safeguarding procedures. We have not received and are not aware of any concerns or complaints about this service during the period since the last inspection. Overall the evidence indicates that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 30th September 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
