4Lorne Terrace is an end house that has been adapted to provide a care service. The home provides personal care for 4 adults who may fall within the Autism Spectrum or have Asperger`s. The house has four large bedrooms, one office/sleep-in room, 2 lounges, a dining room, kitchen, bathroom/shower and two toilets. These are divided throughout the home. However a toilet is not available on the ground floor and a few steps lead up to the entrance of the home. Therefore the home is not suitable for people who use a wheelchair. Lorne Terrace is in the Ashbrooke area of Sunderland and is within walking distance from the city centre. Corner shops can be found in the area, as well as pubs and an art centre. Backhouse Park is within walking distance plus there are ample bus routes, which travel to the city centre and other cities such as Durham. What the care home does well The homes admission procedures very thorough and it involves assessment by many specialists to ensure service users needs are met. The home assesses risk well and permits allowable risk taking. The culture of the service is to encourage people to be independent. There are many activities available to service users and they are encouraged to take part in community activities. Service users healthcare needs are met. The environment is clean tidy and feels homely. Service users express a feeling of belonging. The staff are well trained and professional in their approach. The home is well managed by an expereinced manager. What the care home could do better: This service is rated as exellent and constantly seeks to improve it`s performance. I have no further suggestions to make as a result of this random inspection. Evidence from previous inspections and annual service reviews were read together with the providers self-assessment questionairre. Service records were checked as well as notification (things the home told us happen there). The site visit was carried out over 4 hours on Thursday 5 February. The home continues to run well and provide an excellent service. Service users told me they were happy with the service they received and enjoyed living in the home. The home is pleasantly decorated and kept clean and tidy. there are a range of activities thatr service users are involved in. Staff are well trained and professional. Staff and service users get on well. There was no need to revise the opinion of this hoem or its current rating.
