Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. Completion of the AQAA is a legal requirement and it enables the service to undertake a self- assessment, which focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection findings. Information about any complaints or safeguarding we received. Surveys received from five people at the home, seven staff and three social and health care professionals. What has this told us about the service? The homes AQAA was completed and returned to us when we asked for it. It provided us with information about outcomes for people using the service. We have not received any complaints or safeguarding notifications about this home in the last twelve months. The homes AQAA told us they had not received any directly. Surveys received from people who live at the home told us they receive the care and support they need. They said that staff support is available when needed and that staff listen to them. People knew how to make a complaint and said that there was someone they could talk to informally. People said that there were activities that they could take part in and that they liked the meals. Comments from people about what the home does well included: Everything. Meals are always a high standard, different variety of choice. Talking to staff, days out, bedroom. There is always support available. There was one comment about what the home could do better: Better garden. Surveys from social and health care professionals indicate that peoples needs are usually met and that the home seeks and acts on advice. Comments included: Comfortable accommodation. There is always support available. Very staff intense so can ensure there is enough time for each person. Respond quickly to requests for meetings and take on board some suggestions for changes. More rehabilitation opportunities needed particularly budgeting and shopping as the home usually does group shopping. Not all people want a group approach to activities. Surveys from staff indicate they get the training and support they need. Staff told us there are usually enough staff on duty to meet peoples needs. Comments from staff included: We work well as a team. The home is well run. Provides a warm and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 caring atmosphere. Training is always going on. I feel Manningford is a very well organised home. I feel that there is nothing that needs to be changed or could be better. I have found this job to be very rewarding. The home told us about some of the improvements they had made, this included: People have been attending colleges of their choice and working in voluntary places of their choice. A new garden shed has been built, a rotary drier for clothes has been provided and Sky sports has been installed. Training in the home has now improved as we now have a Human Resource Department responsible for staff development. The home told us about their plans to improve, these included: To further explore and implement employment, training and educational opportunities and to broaden the range of meaningful and purposeful activities. To continue to explore ways in which to encourage and facilitate people taking more responsibility for their own health and personal care. To motivate people and enable them to have an insight to their mental health and by so doing, promote recovery. Promote the importance of whistle blowing and an open door approach. Implement a yearly development plan for the people who use our service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 1st December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
