Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: * The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. * Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. * Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. * What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. * The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. * Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (self-assessment) when we asked for it. The self-assessment included some good information. It told us that the service is listening to people who use their service because The home has focused on Person Centeredness, and in the last year we have been actively planning with people and their families, and other important people in their lives. Day care programmes are individualised wherever possible we have introduced service user meetings, which take place on a weekly basis. We have attempted to provide greater access to the community during the evening, several people attend a college course during on a Wednesday night. The service also demonstrated that it is developing because: the decor of the home has improved and has a nice relaxed calming approach. We have three staff employed who are licensed trainers who deliver S.P.E.L.L (Autism training) Health and Safety, POVA, Person Centred Planning and all Induction Standards. Staff supervision/Appraisal has improved to meet the required standard and in line with the National Autistic Society competency based job descriptions. Following our last inspection the service wrote to us and said how they planned to address the 2 requirements we had made of them. The service has been proactive in notifying us of events in the service and we feel that we are kept informed of any significant events at the home. The service tells us they have received no complaints in the last 12 months. We have not been made directly aware of any complaints issues about this service. We sent 6 surveys for staff and 6 surveys for service users. We received 6 completed surveys from members of staff, and 3 completed surveys from people using the service. The surveys received were positive. Staff told us that checks such as references and CRB were carried out before they started work and that their induction and training given was relevant to their role. One person said Our manager shows exceptional people skills and knowledge of the service. Middlefield Manor promotes the well being of all our service users including choice, social and living skills. Staff also said that they were given up to date information about the people they supported. Staff also thought there was always enough staff on duty. One staff member said I Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 think Middlefield has moved on well during the past 12 months meeting the new challenges and gelling as a team. The comments received from residents were positive. The residents believe they get a good service. All 3 residents felt that staff always treated them well and listened and acted on what they said. The residents knew who to speak to if they were ever unhappy. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? At the previous key inspection on 29th April 2008 we judged this was a good service. We do not believe anything significant has occurred to change our view, therefore we will continue to gather information about this service and keep to our schedule of inspection. We will complete a key inspection of this service by 30th April 2010. We believe that this service will address any issues that come to their attention.
