What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection of this service was carried out on 14/1/2009. The home has been registered with the Care Commission since 2004 and is a large size Nursing Home, managed by Deborah Pears. The home was found to provide excellent outcomes for people living in the home, when it received its last key inspection. No regulatory action has been taken against the provider to indicate that the provider is unfit to manage a care home. The registered provider has complied with the responsibilities of a registered provider within this service. We looked at all the information that we have received, since the last key inspection. This included: Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints: there have been no complaints made to the Care Quality Commission (CQC), since the last inspection. The Manager also reported that no complaints have been made to the organisation in the last twelve months. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement: There have been a number of notifications regarding relevant issues sent to the CQC, which have been dealt with in a fully satisfactory manner. The previous key inspection. No other visits have been made to the service in the last twelve months. No other information has been received from any other relevant organisations. The annual quality assurance assessment, (AQAA), has been sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on, how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Surveys have been sent out to staff and people who live in the home. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA gave us the information we asked for. This included regarding essential policies and procedures that need to be in place for the proper running of the home and contained practices to ensure that peoples needs are the primary focus of the homes work. We have received four surveys from the relatives of people living at the home and they were very positive regarding the care the service provides: Nightingales have looked after my mother very well since she came here...They do very well, the staff are all very friendly and do their upmost to make mothers life happy. A clean and cheerful atmosphere. Homely atmosphere with good staffing Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 levels....proper food...welcoming to visitors....open to suggestions. There were a small number of suggestions to improve practice: Respond to calls faster. Improve the parking. We received nine surveys from staff which were overwhelmingly positive about the service: Looks after residents...listens to families. The residents always have a very nutritious and varied diet. Always does its utmost to meet the residents needs. we...respect residents...everyone is happy and enjoys their work. There was only one suggestion as to the need to interact with residents more...do more activities., which management need to consider. Taking into account all the information we have our judgement is that the home still recognises how to provide a good service and has identified improvements that the home intends to make. The AQAA outlined how the service focuses on the welfare and quality of life for people who live there and the improvements that are to be made to make peoples lives better. The Manager ensures that staff receive essential training to equip them with the skills to provide sensitive personal care. The only omission on the AQAA was that the dates for the review of essential equipment, which we need to be informed about. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There is no need to do a random inspection to look at any issues raised or to bring forward our next inspection, though we can inspect at any time if a need arises to do so.
