What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was requested and had been sent to us by the service at the time of this Annual Service Review. The AQAA is a self-assessment that tells us how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Comment cards that we sent out and have received back from people who use the service, relatives and the staff. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection on the 3rd October 2007 and the Annual Service Review(ASR) on 22nd August 2008 and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information which we may have received from other organisations such as social services. What other people have told us about the service either as complaints or compliments. What has this told us about the service? The home has sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that we asked for. They tell us that in response to the residents that they have refurbished several of the bedrooms, replaced all the towels and some of the bed linen and have refurbished the garden furniture. Age Concern are now visiting the home to offer confidential advice and guidance to those residents who wish to talk with them. The home has put a website in place at www.oakhouse-carehome.co.uk, where information about the home can be found. There has been increased training arranged that includes nutritional training for the cooks and training for the mental capacity act and the deprivation of liberty. They tell us that they plan to refurbish the large lounge and purchase a large screen television for the residents. Neither the home or the Care Quality Commission have received any complaints about the home since the last ASR on 22nd August 2008. The recommended level for staff achieving a National Vocational Award (NVQ) at level 2 or above has not been reached but the home are encouraging staff to undertake it. This will give the residents and their families confidence that the home is providing staff that are trained to look after them well. People living in the home have previously told us that they enjoy living there. They told us that they are happy with the environment that they live in, the activities that are arranged, the choice of meals that they have and the care that the staff give. We have only had surveys returned to us by the staff on this occasion but will add to this report if we receive any further surveys. Comments that we received: The home is run like family home The food is always fresh and home-cooked It is a very well run business with lots of support and training Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home regularly lets us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection or ASR and they have shown that they have managed issues as they should do. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do an inspection by 30th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
