Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us most of the information we asked for. The AQAA told us how the home seeks the views of residents and their representatives through random monthly satisfaction surveys and meetings with residents relatives on alternate months. As a result of listening to the views of residents, a number of changes have been made to the service provided such as improved access to the courtyard garden areas and introduction of menus with more variety. There are further plans to introduce picture menus and to increase the frequency of dementia awareness training sessions for staff. The AQAA also described how the home aimed to meet the National Minimum Standards and a how improvements have been made to activities with more being introduced for both groups and individual residents as well as the involvement of the Alzheimers Society. In addition regular staff meetings are now being held. The home also has plans to improve the amount of care staff with a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and ensure that all staff attend mandatory training. The AQAA told us that the home had received three complaints in the twelve months prior to September 2009. We were not involved in any of these. There were no safeguarding referrals made about any of the residents. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
