What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This includes: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. It had been completed by the manager of the service at the time. We looked at the information in the AQAA and discussed this with the current manager, our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA indicated areas where improvements have been made in the past year and what further work they plan to do. A staff photo gallery has been installed in the reception area to enable residents and visitors to put names to faces; there is ongoing refurbishment at the home; the home aims to continue to listen to suggestions and ideas from residents, visitors and staff, and act on them if appropriate. Residents are encouraged to participate in decisions about the services provided at Prideaux House, on a daily basis and through quarterly questionnaires. The home also holds regular relatives and visitors meetings to involve them in decisions about the care provided. The AQAA did not include details of how the home addressed issues raised at the last inspection in January 20009. However discussions with the current manager identified that the issues have been addressed, risk assessments have been expanded to include the use of the stair lift and residents using the bath or shower, and accessing the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 community independently. The documentation has been reviewed and now reflects the individual needs of each resident, and records are kept of those involved in care plan reviews. The information regarding safeguarding has been updated, and there are clear guidlines to enable staff to follow recognised protocols. Surveys for residents and staff were sent to the home, seven residents surveys were completed by relatives and returned to the Commission. The comments were very positive and reflected the good care offered by Prideuax House, the atmosphere is homely, staff are always welcoming, cant praise them highly enough, receive the very best of care with lots of entertainment, indiviudal care plan reviews which relatives are invited to, it is a big happy family for us and our family. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key unannounced inspection by 15th January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
