This annual service review included a review of information that the Commission has received about the service since the previous Key Standards Inspection in October 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living at this home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. There were four surveys returned to us by people who live at the home, and four from staff members working at the home. We also looked at the information we have about how the service manages any complaints and what the service has told us about things that have happened since the previous inspection including formal notifications as required under regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations 2001. The findings of the previous Key Inspection, and relevant information from other organisations were also considered as a part of this review. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information that we asked for including information about how the home ensures that equality and diversity issues are addressed appropriately. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living at the home have told us that they are very satisfied with the care and support that they receive. Comments received from people living at the home indicated that the home is kept clean, that they have opportunities to make decisions, the home is secure and the food is good. One person advised I feel my needs are being met. Another, when asked what the home does well, replied everything basically. A further person replied nothing when asked what the home could do better. Staff highly rated the homes support encouraging residents to live independently. One staff member felt that it provided residents with a secure base for their rehabilitiation. Another staff member noted that the culture within the home enables service users to practice the activities of daily living. The home was praised for catering to individual needs, providing equal opportunities to staff and residents, and enrolling some residents on college courses. As one staff member noted Our team is able to offer rehabilitative schemes geared to individuals skills and strengths as well as weaknesses. Recommendations to improve the home included better communication from outside agencies, improved administration regarding staff recruitment, team building exercises and incentives offered to staff to achieve goals and meet targets. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last Key Inspection, and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 13th October 2011, with the possibility of a random inspection visit prior to this.
