The Ramping Cat House is a care home with nursing, registered with CSCI to provide accommodation and services to 15 individuals. The home is situated in open countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds, near to Burford. Accommodation is provided in single rooms over two floors, with a stair lift providing access to the first floor. The manager and a team of nursing and care staff provide care, plus a part time cook. The present owner acquired the home in July 2005, visits regularly, and has plans to improve and extend the accommodation.

What the care home does well At the Key Inspection of 14/10/09 we found that people living in the home said that the staff team is `good`, that they create a good atmosphere and that the best thing about the home is the `cheerfulness of the staff`. People in the home praised the lunches, and we found that the home manages medication well. What the care home could do better: The home needs to make sure that the improvements now in place as a result of our enforcement action are maintained, and that they actively seek to continue improving the home through consultation with the people living there. Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 7 Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: We found that the home has now addressed the three outstanding requirements from our Key Inspection of 09/08/07, and had acted quickly to address the six requirements made at the Key Inspection of 14/10/08. The statement of purpose and the service user guide had been updated and provided to the people living in the home. The people living in the home had been consulted about their care, and the care plans now show how they want their health and welfare needs to be met. We saw that the complaints procedure had been revised and now includes our details, and all the people living in the home have a revised copy. We saw that all parts of the home are now clean and reasonably decorated, including the bathrooms. We found that a staff training and development programme had been started, and that sufficient staff members were on duty to meet the needs of the people living in the home. We saw that the confidential records of individuals are kept securely. The registered manager now has time to perform her managerial duties.
