Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The manager who was in post at the time of the last inspection has recently left the home. The home is currently being managed by a temporary manger, who is familiar with the home, whilst a new manager is recruited. The appointment and registration of a manager is important as all health and social care services must meet the registration requirement for the new Health and Social Care Act 2008, coming into force this year. At our last inspection we made three requirements of the home. We received a letter from the manager two months after the inspection stating that these requirements had been met. One of the requirements concerned staffing levels in the home. The AQAA states that the home employs extra staff on at peak times. Another requirement related to the storage of medication. The AQAA states All controlled medication is adequately stored according to safe custody regulation 1973. The temporary manager confirmed by telephone call that the major refurbishment within the home has now been completed. The AQAA states that All but one room have toilet en-suite and the home now has four wet rooms. A quiet room has been Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 created and new commercial kitchen installed. The AQAA states that the home has not received any complaints in the last twelve months and has not made any referrals to the Local Authority under the Safeguarding Adults procedure. Since the completion of the AQAA we are aware that the home has made one alert to the Safeguarding Adults team regarding a person who was readmitted to the home from hospital. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
