We arrived at the home at 0620hours as we had been informed that people were being got up against their wishes at 0530hours. Six people were up washed and dressed, two spoken to said they wanted to be up as they had been awake. Nobody was asleep in the chair. We spoke to the nurse in charge who explained that they would wash and dress the people who were awake early and wandering. They would also wash, change and make comfortable the bed bound residents. She stated that they do not start getting people up at 0530hrs and that people could remain in bed if they wished. The nurse in charge took us around the home so that we could see that people were still in bed. We looked at the new care plan format the manager has introduced these contained preferred bedtimes and rising times. We observed staff entering peoples rooms; only one member of staff knocked on the door before entering. This did not show a respect for the persons privacy and dignity, we discussed this with the manager and stated that she needs to talk to staff about respecting residents personal space.
