This type of inspection is carried out to monitor how the home is operating, and what the quality of the service is like for the people who live there. The visit lasted for approximately three and a half hours, and before we visited we looked at all of the information we had about the home. This included the previous key inspection report, and any reports that we had received about things that had happened in the home, these are called Regulation 37 reports. During the visit we looked at things like care plans, and other general record keeping processes. We observed people living in the home as they went about interacting with staff, and we spoke to staff about how they make sure that peoples needs are met. The care plan we examined provided a good level of information about how the person liked to be supported and there were plans in place to help the person develop their independence. for example we saw plans in place designed to support people to interact with staff and communicate their needs, where previously the person would isolate themselves. We saw evidence to show us that people are supported to raise any concerns that they have directly with staff, and it was clear from the evidence that we saw that staff are always ready and willing to talk with service users if they have a problem. Records showed that people are supported to access all of the health care services that they need to help them stay well, such as GPs, psychiatrists, epilepsy nurse specialists, speech and language therapists and community nurses. We saw that staff followed the homes policies and procedures when administering medication, and the records we examined were all completed correctly. Information we have, and records in the home showed us that staff have access to a wide range of training in subjects that help them to support people in the right way. We saw that staff had a detailed knowledge of peoples needs, and worked very hard to maintain good working relationships with the people living in the home. We saw that there was an effective quality assurance system in place, which included opportunities for people to be involved in the running of the home, this included service users meetings. What the care home does well: Service users are supported to be as independent as possible, by a well trained and knowledgeable staff team. People are supported to live the life they choose, and are consulted with about things that happen in the home.
