Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received about Seymour House since the last key inspection on 3rd February 2009. This information included the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that the manager has completed to tell us how well outcomes are being met for the people who live here. We sent surveys to 20 service users and 10 staff to ask for their views of how well the home provides the service. We have also looked at any other information we have received, such as events or changes that the home has told us about. These are called notifications and it is important that the home keeps us up-to-date about anything that affect the running of the service. We have looked at the previous inspection report to see what improvements the home has made since then. We talked to the new manager about future plans for improvements at the home. What has this told us about the service? The previous manager sent us the AQAA when we asked for it. It gave us most of the information we asked for. Clearly the previous manager could not comment on future plans as the home was being taken over by a new Responsible Individual and a new manager at the time the AQAA was completed. The AQAA shows that the home has continued to try make improvements to its service since the last key inspection. There has been increased training for staff in fire prevention. Windows have been replaced as have some soft furnishings. The previous manager has made way for a new manager who is suitably qualified. This means that a requirement made at the last inspection about the qualifications of the manager is now met. There are no outstanding requirements about this service. Discussions with the new manager showed that there are very good plans to improve and upgrade the accommodation for the people who live here. The home currently has only 8 single rooms and 6 shared rooms. This means that up to 12 people have to share a room. The new Responsible Individual and the new manager have arranged for a top floor flat to be converted to additional single rooms. It is planned that home will provide 16 single rooms and only 2 shared rooms. We received 9 surveys from the people who live here. They had many positive comments to make about the service they receive. One person said, The home has very good organisation, and the staff are very good. Another person said that the home does very well at nice home-cooked foods of the type I like, and friendly, helpful staff. People and staff commented on the friendly and informal atmosphere in the home. It was clear from residents and staff surveys that the people who live here are Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 respected and valued. People said that their health and daily needs were well looked after at the home. People felt that it would be better if there were more single rooms (which is planned). People would like to go out more and said that the times we have had out are excellent. It was clear from the AQAA and surveys that staff also recognise outside activities as an area for improvement. We received 5 surveys from staff. These were very positive about the service. All staff indicated that they felt supported in their role, and had enough information and training about peoples needs to support them well. One staff said, The home has a relaxed, caring atmosphere. All the residents are treated as individuals ensuring that their needs are met. Another staff said, The home involves them in all aspects of their care enabling them to live their lives to the full. Staff were also very positive about the planned changes to the building to improve the accommodation for the people who live here. We feel that Seymour House is still providing a good service for the people who use it, with good plans for future improvements. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the home any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who live here.
