Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: As well as a visit to the service, this report has been informed by information sent to the Commission by the Registered Provider in their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). When we arrived at the service at 3pm, both people who live at the home were being supported by staff members to visit a Fairground. The service users returned home at 3:30pm supported by two staff members. The inspection visit lasted for two hours. There are always at least two staff members on duty so that the two people living at Tudor Road can receive support on a one to one basis. One of the staff members explained that staffing can be increased if required for special activities, such as holidays or if a person is ill. Each person living in the home has a daily personalised one to one activity programme and they are supported to access venues and courses (such as keep fit) in the local community. We looked at the support plan for one of the people living in the home and the daily records and medication records for both people living in the home. Plans are very detailed and outline very well how people like to receive support in all aspects of their lives. This includes their personal care routine. Plans also give information for staff about how to communicate with each person, including what objects of reference to use as prompts. The AQAA told us that staff had received training in how to communicate with people and our observations of the staff on duty confirmed that they communicate effectively with the two people living in the home. The medication records include information for staff members about the drugs that people take, their side effects and the reasons the medication has been prescribed. There were no omissions in recording. Information about when and why as required medication is given is also included in the record. Peoples records also show that they are supported to access health services. The service receives a Monthly Audit visit from the Skills for Living Quality Assurance Manager, who monitor that all aspects of the service are running effectively. We were given a copy of the record of the last visit before the inspection; this took place on 13/04/10. The registered provider was present for most of the inspection visit and during our discussions with them it became clear that the registered manager for the service was no longer actively involved at Tudor Road. A new acting manager was in place, who was present during the inspection visit. We asked that the registered provider and current registered manager inform us in writing of these changes to the management structure. Copies of letters sent by the provider and the manager to CQC were e-mailed directly to the inspector on the day after the inspection.
