Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. A telephone conversation with the Registered Manager for the service on 2nd March 2010 What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment when we asked for it. It was complete and provided us with clear information and evidence. There were suitable responses to the questions we asked in terms of what the service does well and also as to the way they could effect any changes and improvements. The service told us that they continue to work in the best interests of the people who use the service and they promote independence and choice. We looked at the information provided for us in the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment and our judgement is that Spring Lane Care Home can still provide a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The views of our service users and their families are very important to us. This enables us to provide a high quality of care within a homely environment. The information goes on to tell us that health and personal care needs are regularly reviewed and care plans are kept up to date. A variety of activities take place and a dedicated activities co-ordinator is employed. A conversation with the manager on the day this Annual Service Review took place, confirmed that there are no outstanding complaints and that we have received the relevant Regulation 37 notifications from them. (This is a regulatory process which informs us of any reportable incidents that occur at a service.) We have not received any complaints or other information about the service that are outstanding. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Staff training is up to date and the manager told us about a new training programme that the service now provide to all staff. This training is delivered through a Satellite Television system which means the information can be recorded and used at any time. It also provides a live link to an expert in each particular training forum. This system will deliver training in 24 different areas in a twelve month period and includes subjects such as Hydration and Nutrition and Health and Safety. Since the last Key Inspection took place in November 2008 the service have altered the four double rooms into single rooms with en-suite facilities. Four new en-suite rooms have been completed and there are plans in place to build a new conservatory in the spring or early summer of 2010. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment tells us Our philosophy is to create a warm, friendly and homely atmosphere for residents and staff. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
