What the care home does well The home gives good individualised care and support, with attention to detail and to peoples choices. The person living in the home said that he liked it there and was very happy. He had the support of a member of staff at all times and was able to do lots of activities. His general wellbeing had improved and the use of medication had been reduced significantly. The manager descibed how they had introduced the second person into the home over a 4-5 week period to ensure that they could meet his needs and that the two people living at the home were compatible. They are now choosing to do some activities together. Staff are being trained in National Vocational Qualifications and are in sufficient numbers to be able to provide the highly individualised support the service offers. People living in the home like the staff and get on well with them. The home is a modern detached house that is comfortable and homely, and is well maintained, clean and fresh. The trainee manager is undertaking training and experience under the guidance of the provider before applying to become the registered manager. The only requirement from the previous inspection of October 24th 2007 was to obtain local adult protection, now Safeguarding, procedures, and these were present in the home at this visit. What the care home could do better: There were some minor areas of improvement suggested to the manager who agreed to action these immediately, including writing something on the Medication Administration Record to indicate that an antibiotic cream treatment had finished. This was a random inspection carried out by Stephanie Kenning, Regulation Inspector, as part of CSCI quality monitoring of good and excellent services. The site visit was arranged by telephone the previous day to ensure that someone would be at home. One person living at the home was there for lunch with the trainee manager of the service. The visit lasted from 12:00 to 13:10 and therefore was 1 hour and 10 minutes in total. Opportunity was taken to talk to the person living in the home and to see around his home. Discussion with the manager and observation of the building including some documents also took place. The indications are that the home still provide a good service and may have improved. The previous requirement has been met and no new requirements or recommendations were made at this visit. The inspector would like to thank the people at the home for their involvement and contribution to this inspection.
