What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last Key inspection. This included : An Annual Quality Assurance Assessment form (AQAA). This is a self-assessment form completed by the Provider by law, which focuses on how well the provider considers they are meeting the outcomes of the people using the service. It also provides information about the service and how they may intended to improve over the next 12 months. Information from this document has been used in this report were appropriate. We also look at information received by the CQC since the last inspection in the form of notifications. These forms are required to be submitted to the CQC to advise of any issues/incidents that may have happened in the home that may affect the residents welfare. Questionnaires were sent to the manager to distribute between residents and relatives (4), staff (6) and other health care professionals who may visit the Home (3). At the time of writing the report one resident, one relative and four staff had returned questionnaires. Where possible information and comments from the questionnaires has been included in this report. We also looked at the previous Key inspection report and any complaints, concerns or safeguarding referrals that the CQC may have received since the last inspection. Finally, any other relevant information that may have been received from other organisations has been viewed. What has this told us about the service? Since the last Key Inspection the Manager has left and they are in the process of recruiting a replacement. The Interim Manager submitted the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when requested. This contained clear information about the service and provided all the information we required. It was clear what had been improved at the home in the last 12 months, and also what their plans were for the next 12 months. On looking at the AQAA, our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and they are aware of what further improvements they need to make. On viewing the last Key Inspection report, which took place on the 21st October 2008, it reported that the residents received very individual care and the staff ensured the residents were put first and the service provided enhanced their lives. Sydervelt Lodge has a dedicated team of staff, most of whom had achieved their NVQ level 2 or 3 in care. Service users and relatives reported that they were satisfied with the service received and comments included they are very proactive in including family in decisions, the staff at this time are very good and we are happy with the service and support. The staff reported that the service provides good care for the service users and a good quality of life as far as possible and our home is a happy one, with everything done possible to help the service users have a good quality of life. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The AQAA stated that all care plans are detailed and individualised and look at supporting the service users in relation to Independence skills such as cooking, budgeting, and accessing the community. Every service user has two key workers and staff show an awareness of the the service users needs. Feedback from staff included the staff work well as a team and understand the service users individual needs. We support their skills to be as independent as possible, Sydervelt Lodge is a happy friendly home, which reflects on the service users and the home is a nice place to work. During the period since the last Key inspection the CQC have not been made aware of any complaints about the service or of any circumstances that place people at risk of harm or their welfare. The AQAA reported that the home has not received any complaints over the last 12 months and that all staff are aware and have received training for safeguarding adults and the Mental Capacity Act. Questionnaires received back were very complimentary about the service and comments included I like living here and I am happy here, they give the clients in their care opportunities for different and varied experiences and nice food and good social life. The AQAA stated that activities are personalised to each service user and a weekly activity plan is produced, which is different each week. It continues that all service users lead a full and active life and are assisted to lead their life as independently as possible. Improvements that have occurred since the last Key inspection included the hall, toilet and shower room being redecorated. New carpets have been laid in the communal areas and there is now a new garden wall. They are aiming to improve community contact for the residents and also have more individual holidays. They are in the process of trying to gain further funding so one one resident with reduced sight can gain access to the community. This is something that was discussed at the last inspection, due to the staffing levels at the home restricting the residents activities and social outings. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Based on the information available to us we are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 21st November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
