What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us that to evaluate the service, questionnaires had been sent out to people using the service and their representatives. As a result of this, the variety of entertainment has increased, new menus have been planned and there are plans to enhance the garden with raised borders. The information in the AQAA told us how that the care provided was person centered and reviewed regularly with input from the individual themselves and their representative and any health care professionals that were involved in that persons care. A survey received from a health care professional confirmed that the equality of care provided was good. They indicated that people were able to live their lives as they chose and that their diverse needs were met by a competent staff team. The information in the AQAA told us how individuals faith needs were met and how privacy and dignity was maintained and enhanced at the home. The information in the AQAA told us that most of the home had been refurbished. This included new carpets, blinds and curtains, some new bedroom furniture and new dining furniture, which had enhanced the environment to create a restaurant style atmosphere. The information in the AQAA told us that thorough training and recruitment was in Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 place at the home and said that the past twelve months had focused on staff training. This included NVQ training and it was confirmed that eighty five percent of care staff were NVQ 2 trained. This demonstrates that people are supported by trained and competent staff team. Comments received in staff surveys confirmed that the training received was good. comments included, staff training is regular and keeps the staff up to date with information The surveys completed by people living at the home and their relatives were complimentary about the standard of care provided. Comments included, the staff are very friendly and approachable...I feel that my mum gets a high quality of care to meet her needs and all round quality professional care, everyone recognised as individuals and given appropriate assistance The service is very good at informing us about things that have happened in the home and this demonstrates an open and transparent approach. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 17th June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
