What the care home does well The Old Vicarage continues to offer a pleasant, homely and comfortable environment for the residents living there. Staff we spoke to were knowledgeable, competent and many hold an NVQ level 3 in care which is well above the recommended standard. They told us that staff morale in the home was much improved and that they worked well as a team. There is good information on noticeboards around the home about local adult protection polices and who to contact. All but one member of staff has received training and those we spoke to were clear about how, and to whom, they should report any adult concerns that they had. Residents are consulted about the service they receive and there are regular meetings where they can make suggestions and raise concerns. The home also has an excellent survey that is given to each resident to complete. This asks them for feedback about the quality of staff, activities, food and laundry arrangements in the home. We saw some completed forms and the respondents clearly rated the home highly. All prospective residents are fully assessed by senior staff to ensure their needs can be met at the home. What the care home could do better: Information in some of the care plans continues to be a little basic and did not give adequate guidance for staff to ensure that they could look after residents in a comprehensive and consistent way. The monthly reviews of the care plans were also very basic and did not include important information and changes to residents` health and personal care needs. We have concerns about the current management arrangements of the home. The registered manager is Rigmour Paling but she is not in charge of the day to day running of the home and many managerial functions have been allocated to the assistant manager. Staff clearly considered him to be the actual manager. Inspecting for better lives Random inspection report
