Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 9 What we found: Staff said some people do get up early, but as they are not here they do not know when they are woken. One person said she likes to get up early but others are woken and got up to get them dressed. There is no senior on duty at nighttime and records do not show what time people are getting up. The Medicine Administration Records were seen and these were fully completed. Medicine was recorded as given as prescribed and the returns book did not have any unexplained returns of medicine in. Training for safe handling of medicines is arranged for the end of January 2009. The complaints book had 5 recent complaints in. These were all completed by the previous manager who has since left. The senior on duty said she would not know where to record any complaints. Staff are assisting people with moving and handling without having the required training. One senior said she had spoken to people on occasions about not following the correct moving and handling procedures. One person said she is sometimes hurt when being moved. The senior on duty said she has been here for 12 months and not had any moving and handling training in that time and she last did this training about 3 years old. The provider said she would arrange some moving and handling training as a matter of urgency. The manager left her post at the beginning of December. The senior on duty said there was not anyone designated to be in charge, they were all doing it together. No notification has been received about the manager going or the temporary management arrangements. There was a rota in place and a sample of peoples cash accounts were checked and found to be correct.
