What the care home does well The premises were clean and tidy. New chairs have been purchased for the lounges, and new bedding for all the residents. Three bedrooms have been refurbished and two large shower rooms created. Care plans have improved. The Manager is in the process of re-writing them and so far 11 have been completed. Those we looked at were person-centred and detailed. They clearly set out residents` needs and how staff are to meet them. Records showed they are being regularly reviewed. New `Personal Preference` care plans have been introduced. They are used to record background information about the residents (education, work, family life, etc) and their likes, dislikes, and choices. Residents complete these forms with their key workers. This helps staff to get to know the residents they care for. The home now has an activities co-ordinator who is employed for 30 hours per week. In the mornings she works with residents on a one-to-one basis, and in the afternoons she runs group sessions. We visited the activities room where a gardening group had been planting seedlings which they plan to transfer to the garden. The residnets we talked to made many positive comments about the home. One told us, `If I need any help I get it, the food`s fantastic, the girls are lovely, and the Manager`s brilliant.` Other comments included, `The food is ample for me`, and, `The quality of the staff is good.` A new Manager is in post. She has worked for the Owning Body for 12 years and is an experienced carer and team leader. She is hard working and enthusiastic and was seen to have a good relationship with those who live and work at the Willows. One resident told us, `The Manager`s trying her best to improve the home.` What the care home could do better: The home is still without a registered Manager. The current Manager, or another suitable person, must be put forward for registration with CQC. This will ensure the home meets its legal responsibilities and help to provide continuity for residents, relatives, and staff. Random inspection report
