What did we do for this annual service review? What did we do for this annual service review We looked at all of the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment, which is required by law to be completed by the service and focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about any other things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the result of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the service is still providing an excellent service and they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA informed us of the service philosophy: We believe that everyone has the ability and right to make informed choices about lives and responsibilities in doing so.......we are committed to empowering those with whom we work to be able to make those choices. Five people living at the home returned completed questionnaires to us. Four people told us they were asked if they wanted to move into the home and one was too ill to communicate their choice at the time. All five told us they could do what they wanted during the day, in the evening and at weekends. Four people told us that staff always treated them well and one person told us usually. When asked what does the home do well, we received the following comments from residents: always try to make me happy; Treetops is dedicated to the residents. They arrange lots outings and activities Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and ensures that I have good nursing care, allows me privacy and allowing for my disability I am able to do what I choose. We received completed surveys from four relatives. When asked What does the service do well? a relative told us Care and support. Not only for my x but also my family. I could not wish for a better place for my x to live. I know x is well looked after and is safe....the staff and management are the best. A second relative told us the group talks, games etc in the morning are excellent and in response to the same question, a third relative said personal care, relationships and support for relatives. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since the last key inspection and they have shown they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that the service continues to provide excellent outcomes for people who use it. The home has a complaints procedure and both residents and relatives confirmed they knew how to complain. The AQAA informed us that there had been no complaints in the previous twelve months. The home has safeguarding adult procedures in place and staff have received training on abuse. One referral had been made by the home that was investigated in line with Essex local procedures. The AQAA informed us that since the previous key inspection several bedrooms and en suites have been redecorated and new flooring provided, specialist flooring has been laid in corridors, three bathrooms and the dining room refurbished. Social activities have increased and are now provided at weekends. More residents have been taken on outings and holidays. A new dishwasher, a medication trolley and new computers have been purchased. The AQAA informed us that further areas for development have been identified, for example in care planning, continuing to upgrade the premises, improving induction, training and supervision and promoting equality at work. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at anytime if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
