Trelawn Addiction Centre has changed registered owners and is now part of the organisation `Cranstoun Drug Services?, which, as the name indicates, specialises in the rehabilitation of people with drug and alcohol problems. Trelawn is a large traditional brick built domestic style property situated near the Purley crossroads (A22/A23) and the Purley shopping centre. The property has a number of loungesAnnual Service Review Number of places (if applicable): Under 65 0including a combined lounge/dining room on the ground floor, a meeting room and a small "quiet" lounge on the first floor. There are 2 shared and 11 single bedrooms situated on the three floors of the house. None of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities other than wash-hand basins. There are toilets and bathrooms throughout the home. The home has as its Statement of Purpose "to provide rehabilitation for people with drug and alcohol problems and adults recovering from abuse" Trelawn can also admit people with mental health problems as a secondary issue. This is a rehabilitation unit, not a detoxification unit. It is expected that residents will move on after a 16 week programme of intensive support and the ethos of the service is that residents will `take responsibility for their own actions`, so they have a considerable degree of autonomy in the home but are expected to engage in the therapeutic programme at all times. This programme is unusual in having a `relapse? option in certain restricted situations where re-integration into the programme can be managed after a relapse. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included. The annual quality assurance assessment AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we may have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment AQAA on 25 8 09. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We rarely receive surveys back from residents, this may be because of the high turnover and short stay nature of this service. However when we visit residents invariably compliment the service for the support they get in turning their lives around in most but not all cases. The manager advised us in their Annula Audit how they manage admissions, choices and overall care and support of residents by telling us that they have Leavers questionnaires, weekly house meetings, service development feedback as needed. The service has new of Loss/bereavement groups, and has expanded complementary therapies, other developments include Dual Diagnosis Service, Survivors group. The Audit also tells us that Cranstouns Equal Opportunities Policy is related to recruitment and staff conduct, Trelawns Boundaries and Expectations Document for residents, Diversity Group, Challenging stereotyping, use of language and any prejudices. We are told that the service has well trained, experienced staff, we receive positive feedback from care managers and residents and in comparison with other similar services we are more than competetive in what we offer in regard to cover, the programme offered and staff / resident ratio. In depth referral and assessment are taken, including risk assessment and dual diagnosis assessment if appropriate. The manager is confident that the service is functioning well because Continued referrals from Care Managers, comprehensive assessement and forms by staff, including discussion at team meetings, ensuring all necessary information is received before making a decision. In respect of coice we are advised about their Care Planning, Internal and External Reviews, Personal Focus Group and Reflections, having weekends away if appropriate, looking at options, choices and consequences with rather than for residents, encouraging residents to be open in groups and to make responsible choices. And in respect of heal and social care the home metis with each residents for regular 1 to 1 sessions based on a mutually agreed Care Plan which includes physical and emotional needs, Group Work sessions, regular reviews, being available 24,7 to talk with residents, weekly House Meeting for feedback from residents. Overall Canstoun tell us they provide an br br Annual Service Review br br Page 4 of 6 br br established, appropriate, rehabilitative programme run by an experienced staff team. Continuing to maintain a high standard of service.The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 1 11 2010.
