Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
The reason for this Random Inspection was as part of the Registration Transition process. We visited the home on a weekday morning, and the visit lasted four hours. We spoke to some residents, the provider, the manager and the deputy manager. We looked at two care plans, medication administration records, staff files and the quality monitoring systems. We looked at the training for staff to enable them to care for people safely as well as the supervision they receive to support them in their role. People who use the service can expect to have their care needs assessed prior to them moving to the home and that care plans reflect the persons needs including their cultural, social and physical needs. People we spoke with said that staff helped them when they needed to be helped and were kind and respectful. One person told us staff always respect my dignity. We saw that people received medication at the time that best suited their health needs not just when it suited the homes routine, records were well maintained and only trained staff administered medication. People spoken with told us The staff make sure I get my medication when I need it. In one persons plan we saw a reference to the person going to hospital following a fall, the management had not told us about this incident as part of the regulation 37 procedures ensuring they notify the Commission of all incidents. We looked at the recruitment of staff to ensure that only staff suitable to work with vulnerable people were recruited. We looked at two files both had all the information required by law such as Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks and two references. Staff told us they received support to attend training and training records showed that all mandatory health and safety training was provided including up dates. Staff were also supported to attend National Vocational Training, this is a skills based training to show people have reached a set standard. All staff attended the Skills for Care Induction programme (this induction is the industry standard for all carers). The thorough training programme offered staff ensures they have the skills needed to meet the assessed needs of people living in the home. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
