Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and asked for since the last key inspection on the 30th September 2008. This included:The ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSESSMENT (AQQA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. SURVEYS returned to us by the people who use the service and from other people who have an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any COMPLAINTS. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called NOTIFICATIONS and are a legal requirement. The previous KEY INSPECTION and the results of any OTHER VISITS that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. Relevant information from OTHER ORGANISATIONS. What OTHER PEOPLE have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSESSMENT (AQQA) when asked for it; it was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and in our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent three star service. In the ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSESSMENT, the registered provider/manager has stated that the home:- Currently has four residents all of whom have a learning disability and that they aim to provide care in a family setting; also maintaining twenty four hour staff cover. The care needs of the people living in the home are appropriately assessed, met and documented in the person centred care plan. That they liaise with relevant healthcare professionals to meet the health needs of the people who live in the home. That th people living in the home are treated with respect and maintaining their dignity and privacy; giving support and encouragement to help them participate in the decision making processes. That they maintain a clean, hygienic and comfortable home ensuring the people who live there maintain their health, safety and well being. They keep up to date with training and development courses; their policies and procedures are reviewed and updated annually and they send out satisfaction surveys ensuring that they maintain their quality of service. Since the last key inspection the Aqaa states that the home has made the following improvements:- Have trained staff to meet all the assessed personal, health and social care needs of the people who live in the home in all aspects of their daily lives. Have provided more training relating to the updated policies and procedures of the service ensuring that staff are fully conversant with them knowing what to do in all Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 situations that arise. The views of the residents are sought and acted upon; regular conversations take place with the management of the home; surveys are completed by residents and their family/ representatives and regular meetings are held where everyone is encouraged to take part. Areas of the home have been decorated and floor coverings have been replaced. More outings have been arranged for the people living in the home ensuring they use community facilities. The AQAA states that the registered provider/manager is to continue to encourage the people using the service to make decisions about their life and events ensuring that the choices they make are meaningful to them as an individual. To continue to maintain and try to exceed the high quality of care and services that they currently provide for the people in their care. To offer more indoor and outdoor activities to the people living in the home and supplement the activities the residents currently undertake. Continue to provide high quality training and training updated for staff and management. The following are quotes taken from the surveys received by the Commission:- I am very happy - the staff are very good to us. I have no complaints. I like the staff very much - the house is very nice. I like living here - the home is very clean and nice. The carers listen and act on what I say. I like living here - the staff are good. My relative is very happy in the home, with care and living standards properly provided. I am very happy my relative is having a good service and is very happy living at Ash Care Home. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since the last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well wit us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 30th September 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
