Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We had surveys returned to us from three people living at the home, they all had help to complete the survey. They indicated that they were satisfied with the care, the activities and meals that are provided. They indicated that staff are available when they need them. One person indicated that they were unaware of how to make a formal complaint. Three surveys were returned to us that had been completed by relatives of people living at the home. They indicated a satisfaction with all aspects of their relatives care. One person indicated that they know how to make a formal complaint and that usually the care service responds appropriately to the concerns. One person commented - The staff at Broadmeadow Court always make us feel welcome, they keep us informed of anything that concerns our Mum, and they always respond to any concerns that we may have. The staff work very hard and bend over back wards with caring for our Mum. Three members of staff completed our survey and indicated that they get sufficient information and training for them to do their job and felt well supported by the senior staff and the management team. They told us that there is a Good stable team of carers which enables us to give good quality care. We promote independence along with dignity and privacy but always trying to promote choice wherever possible. The AQAA tells us that it provides a good service by - Planning individual care effectively, offering personal care sensitively and with support. We offer daily routines Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 that maximise independence, choice and autonomy and we encourage service users in activities that reflect personal preferences and ability. We encourage community links and involvement of families and friends and respond to complaints positively and promptly. They have plans to further improve the service by - Developing a further understanding and implementation of procedures to the Mental Capacity Act and the Deprivation of Liberty safeguards, by seeking more training in this area. We will continue to develop activities, socialising and inclusion. The AQAA informs us that they have recieved one complaint within the last twelve months and that it was satisfactorily concluded. The service told us about this and the action they took to resolve the complaint. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
