What the care home does well

Bury Lodge is a service that provides excellent outcomes for service users. The manager focuses the service around what is in the best interests of service users. Detailed assessments and care records are maintained and would give nursing and care staff detailed information about the resident and would enable them to provide the care that the service user needed. Daily routines in the home are flexible and residents are encouraged to make choices and have autonomy over their lives and how they wish to undertake their activities of daily living. Comprehensive social history of the service user is recorded and the activities programme is tailored around the individual residents` needs and their mental capacity to understand the world around them. Nutritional assessments are undertaken on all service users. The home provides a wide variety of food in the form of snacks throughout the day as well as meals four times a day. The home and environment is well maintained and clean with all areas accessible. Residents` accommodation had been personalised with family photographs and evidence of past hobbies and careers, making most rooms personal. The home has a development plan for continual maintenance and redecoration. Residents and staff had confidence in the effectiveness of the home`s manager. Systems and procedures in the home work well including the management of medication, dealing with complaints, staff recruitment, quality monitoring, and health and safety. The recruitement process is robust and all appropriate checks and records are maintained in personnel files. The organisation employs a training manager and therefore there is a strong commitment to staff training and development to ensure that staff are able to fulfiltheir roles and responsibilities and meet residents needs.
