What the care home does well

The home is providing a quality person centered service from each staff level of including domestic, catering and administrative staff, care assistants, unit heads and the management team. This means there are a lot of happy smiling faces amongst people who use the service and staff that gives the home a friendly, positive and light atmosphere. A good variety of group and individual activities are provided as a policy and culture of seeing the service through the eyes of people who use it is adopted. Staff have more time to provide and develop a more individualized service. The home smells fresh and is spotless throughout.

The home must continue to build on the good service foundations established and continue to develop the good practice already in place.

It is registered to provide care including Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 7 Brief description of the care home nursing for up to one hundred and ten residents of either gender and recently it has been registered for up to sixty beds for people with dementia and fifty for older people. The building opened approximately nine years ago and is purpose built. It is owned and run by Care UK and places are commissioned by Westminster Council and the PCT. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea commission some places in Kensington, the unit for people with early onset dementia. The weekly fees for the service ranges between GBP340 and GBP750. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: The quality rating for this home is 2 stars. This means people who use the service experience good quality outcomes. This was a random unannounced inspection and took three and a half hours to complete over one day on the 4th June 2010. During our visit, we spoke with people who use the service, staff and the management team. We also looked at some records, did a tour of the building and observed care practices and activities. We also sat in on the staff team meeting and award for staff member and unit of the month. We compared what we saw on the day with information we already have including an AQAA self assessment form filled in by the home and returned to us. An AQAA is a self assessment document that tells us how the home thinks it is performing against the minimum standards.
