We visited Rose Cottage on 5th May 2010 to check that requirements made at the time of the last key inspection (which took place on 29th May 2007) have been met. During the course of the visit, we spoke to two people who use the service, two visitors and a health care professional. We also took into account all of the information we have received since the date of the last key inspection, including the providers annual quality assurance assessment. We received comment cards from five people who use the service and six members of staff. We found that action has been taken to meet the requirements that were made at the time of the last inspection. The statement of purpose has been amended to reflect the categories the home is registered for. References were available for the staff members whose records were inspected. We did however note that a reference from one persons last employer contained very little detail. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
The home was not able to produce evidence confirming that a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure had been obtained for a member of staff recruited in 2004. A new disclosure must be obtained for this person. This is to enable us to ensure that people who use the
Care Homes for Older People Page 4 of 8 service are protected from harm. The provider had not notified us of the death of a person who uses the service. Any incidents covered by Regulation 37 must be reported to the Commission. This is to enable us to ensure that people who use the service are protected from harm. When asked what the home could do better, several people who completed comment cards mentioned that they would like more activities including trips out. Staff members reported that they would like more time to undertake one to one activities and to sit & chat with people. If you want to know what action the person responsible for this care home is taking following this report, you can contact them using the details set out on page 2.
