What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was returned to us in good time, and contained information about the facilities and service provided to those living in the home. It provided information about the home, and details of staffing including training, together with information on changes that have been made in the home, and planned changes for the future. It also demonstrated how the service takes the views of the people living in the home into account in the decisions made, for example new activities have been arranged both within the home and in the local area, and new menus have been introduced. These changes have been introduced at the request of people living in the home, and they are encouraged to make their wishes known through care plan reviews, residents and relatives meetings and day to day conversation with management and staff. The AQAA indicates that the service maintains a good pre admission assessment, and obtains information from professionals previously involved in a prospective residents care. Individual care plans are in place for everyone living in the home which include detail about the persons social background, health and social care needs as well as likes and dislikes. Information is provided to prospective residents and their families through information packs, the homes Statement of Purpose and the Service User Guide. All new residents receive a welcome pack on admission telling them more about the home and the facilities available. The service continues to offer long term residential care, and currently has 20 residents, funded by either Norfolk County Council or through private arrangements. In the last year, 7 new residents have been admitted to the home. The service follows the same assessment process for any new admission, irrespective of funding Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 arrangements. People who live in the home have access to a range of activities on a daily basis, both within the home and in the local community and we were told in the AQAA that activity levels have increased over the last year. Changes to the menu have been made following discussions with residents, and a range of locally produced vegetables are always available with meals. The service received a certificate of excellence from the local Environmental health team following an inspection of the kitchen facilities. There have been no major changes to the home in the past year, but a programme of redecoration is ongoing, and will continue this year, together with improvements to the garden. The AQAA showed that there have been no concerns complaints or safeguarding issues had in the past year, and confirmed that procedures remain in place should any issues arise, and that staff receive the required safeguarding training. Recruitment procedures ensure that all staff undertake the required checks to ensure that the residents of the home are not placed at risk, and these procedures are in accordance with the regulations. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 16th March 2012 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
