The home consists of three separate Houses (referred to as Elm House, House 3 and House 4), each providing: five single bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge, kitchen diner, conservatory area, and a garden area. A fourth building on site is used for Day Services and office space, and there are extensive grounds. Woodacre provides accommodation and care to people whose primary needs result from a learning disability, although some people living in the home have an additional physical disability, sensory impairment or have additional mental health needs. For people admitted since 2002, the home?s conditions of registration reflect these additional needs. Although the home primarily aims to admit younger adults (i.e. people who are under the age of 65), due to the fact that it provides a home for life, some people living there are now over the age of 65. A statement of purpose and service user guide are available at the home. Current fees are £1100 per week. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found:
This unannounced random inspection visit took place during June 2010, and included a visit to the home. This type of inspection is conducted to monitor how the home is operating, and what the quality of the service is like for the people who live there. The visit lasted for four hours, and before we visited we looked at all of the other information we had about the home. This included the previous key inspection report, and reports of any events that had happened in the home. Some people who live at the home also sent us surveys to tell us what they thought. During the visit we looked at things like care plans, and other general record keeping processes. We spoke to people who live at the home to find out what it is like to live there, and we also spoke to staff about how they make sure peoples needs and wishes are met. Peoples care plans included information about how they wanted to be supported with their privacy and dignity, and there were plans in place to help people to develop their independence. Surveys showed that people are happy with the care and support they receive, and comments were made such as staff always assist me with my personal care and are always very nice. People told us, and surveys showed that everyone knows how to make a complaint if they need to. Records showed that any complaints received are always managed in the right way. Records showed that people are supported by the staff team to access all of the health care services that they need to help them stay fit and well, such as GPS, opticians, dentists and consultant psychiatrists. We saw that staff follow policies and procedures when they are administering medicines, and medication administration records were completed in the right way. Information we have, and records in the home showed us that staff have access to a wide range of training in subjects that help them to support people in the right way. We observed that staff have a detailed knowledge of peoples needs and strive to maintain a good working relationship with the people who live in the home. We saw that there is an effective quality assurance system in place which includes opportunities for people to be involved in the running of the home, and to check that policies and procedures are being followed. This is done by way of audits, manager checks and home meetings. What the care home does well:
