Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using this service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints or allegations. What the service has told us about things that that have happened in the home. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. The service history. Random sample surveys of people who use the service and their representatives. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment when we asked for it. This was detailed and provided us with all the information we asked for. Having looked at the information in the AQAA, the service history, and additional information received since the previous inspection it is our judgment that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they have to make. Since the last ASR the home continues to operate a structured admission procedure when a vacancy becomes available. The AQAA indicates that needs assessments, care plans, and risk assessments in place continue to be reviewed and updated accordingly. The home has a complaints procedure in place that is available to all service users and their relatives. Since the last ASR the home has been seeking two advocates to act on behalf of service users. This role would also include supporting service users to use the complaints procedure if necessary. There have been no complaints in the last twelve months. The AQAA describes the activities in place, and states that following reviews of care activities have been changed accordingly. There is an ongoing maintenance and refurbishment programme in place. Since the last ASR fire safety work has been undertaken in line with regulatory reform. Further Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 areas have been identified for refurbishment and will be undertaken in order of priority. The staffing situation has remained well established with agency staff only being used in an emergency. The training coordinator oversees the training and development of staff. Some staff have undertaken a class room based course on equality and diversity. Three more staff have achieved NVQs, two staff are currently undertaking NVQ and one staff member has enrolled to undertake this. Two staff have qualified as shift leaders. Quality audits of the service are undertaken and surveys are sent to relatives and other stakeholders. Feedback is acted upon and results published in an internal report for information. The home continues to inform The Care Quality commission of any relevant events that have occurred since the last ASR and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with The CQC and have shown that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 18th June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
